Ep 376 – New Net Neutrality Knowledge for Your Noodle!

TOPIC:  John Miley, researcher and writer for the Kiplinger Letter in DC joins us this week to help explain Net Neutrality, why it’s a big deal, and what all the recent commotion and political hubbub is all about – just in time to figure it out before the bill proposal from the FCC expected next Thursday, 2/28!  We cover the basics, but also get into the weeds a bit with unintended consequences, and considering whether this will really do what everyone hopes it will, or just put smiles on a lot of lawyer’s faces …

Before that, Mike and Dave scare the bejeezus out of listeners with an ever-growing list of hacks and security breaches, including one that literally REQUIRES you to pound a spike through your hard drive to fix it!  Then our favorite regular geek Jay Garmon helps us get our trivia on this week with a great bio brain bender:

What was the original structure (later recognized as incorrect, in favor of the double-helix) of the DNA molecule proposed by Watson and Crick?

Cool sites of the week include:

  • Kiplinger – Best place to get more info about the Kiplinger resources including the Kiplinger letter.
  • FCC’s Open Internet – Find out more about net neutrality straight from the horse’s mouth at the FCC’s official site on Net Neutrality (or, as they like to call it, the “Open Internet”)

We cap the hour off with our podcast only song of the week “Tongue Tied” by GroupLove!
